Some of us can indulge in whatever we like to eat without putting on weight. Most of us though, aren’t so fortunate.

Increased intake of energy-dense foods that are high in fat, salt and sugars but low in vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients is compounded by badly timed meals. Put that together with a decrease in physical activity due to sedentary forms of work, changing modes of transportation and increasing urbanisation, it’s easy to see why weight is a big problem for many people.

But it’s more than that. Many people’s diets result in inflammation at cell and tissue level. This in turn can lead to raised stress hormones and an excess of insulin, while a deficiency of certain minerals can lead to sluggish cell metabolism.

At Vita Health we identify the hormonal, mineral and inflammatory imbalances that can contribute to weight loss resistance and then correct them.

Naturally, diet has a big part to play.

At the heart of our healthy-eating programme is the Mediterranean diet, proven to be the most effective for weight loss and a healthy heart. This also helps lower rates of diabetes and depression.

Our food is sourced from the fertile island of Sicily and our menus, designed by Amelia Freer and Fulvio Pierangelini, are rich in fish, olive oil, whole grains, fruit and vegetables, flavoured with herbs grown in gardens of Verdura resort.
